Fifth Annual
RotaCare Bowl-A-Thon

Saturday, August 19, 2023 • 1:30 – 3:30 PM • Pinole Valley Lanes, 1580 Pinole Valley Rd., Pinole

General Event Information

The Fifth Annual RotaCare Bowl-A-Thon will take place Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Pinole Valley Lanes, 1580 Pinole Valley Rd., Pinole, California. All proceeds will benefit RotaCare (Richmond).

Rotary Clubs along the I-80 corridor, including Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Hercules, Pinole, Richmond and San Pablo, have been invited to participate. (Any Rotary Club can participate, if they register.)

Light fare and soft drinks will be provided free for bowlers and guests.

Jill Alderfer of the Pinole Rotary Club is the main coordinator of this event, in conjunction with Dr. Pate Thomson of the Berkeley Rotary Club.

Bowler Information
Each Rotary Club is asked to provide at least (1) team and each team must consist of exactly four (5) bowlers. Each club must identify a Team Captain, who should rally club members to pledge generously to one or more of the bowlers and to come out on August 19th and root for their team.

Each bowler will bowl two (2) games, which amounts to twenty (20) frames. Each bowler should get per-pin pledges and/or fixed-amount pledges. Each bowler is expected to raise $250 (or an approximate pledge total of $1.65 per pinfall). This pledge guideline is meant to guarantee the likelihood of each club raising at least $1,250 for RotaCare, Richmond.

FYI: Some bowlers find it easier to only solicit (and collect immediately) fixed-amount pledges of $10 or $20 (etc.) rather than dealing with per-pin pledges, which involve tracking down pledge-makers to collect money after the event.

Club Information

CLUB INFORMATION
Each participating Rotary Club must submit an application identifying the team captain for their club, including phone number and email address. The application form should be scanned and emailed by August 12 or as soon as possible. An entrance fee of $200 must be paid before August 12. This fee covers rental of the bowling lane, shoes and introductory soft drinks and food.

It is the responsibility of each bowler to collect his/her own pledge money. After the event, each club treasurer will be given a copy of each of that club’s bowler’s pledge forms, plus a summary report. It is the responsibility of each club’s treasurer to ensure all bowlers have turned in their pledge money to their club by August 31. Each club treasurer is expected to submit a single check (for the entire club) or four (4) individual checks (i.e., one for each bowler) as soon as possible after August 19 to the Pinole Rotary Club, c/o Ray Castro, 2089 Vale Road, Suite 30, San Pablo, CA 94806.

Awards
The team that fells the most pins (in 20 frames) will be awarded a trophy engraved with the Club’s name.
